YouTube Introduces Premium Lite: Cheaper Ad-Free Plan Now Available
Want an ad-free YouTube experience for less? Premium Lite now offers ad-free videos at just $7.99/month.
YouTube has introduced a new subscription plan called Premium Lite in the U.S. It costs $7.99 per month and removes ads from most videos. However, it does not include background playback, offline downloads, or ad-free music streaming.

This plan is for users who want an ad-free experience but don’t need extra features like YouTube Music or offline viewing. It’s a cheaper alternative to the $13.99/month Premium plan.
In their blog post, the platform said “In the coming weeks, we’ll also make Premium Lite available to all users in our current pilot countries – Thailand, Germany, and Australia.”
This update came after YouTube crossed 125 million paid subscribers, a big jump from 100 million in January 2024. Ads still bring in most of YouTube’s revenue—about $36 billion in 2024—but subscriptions are becoming a bigger part of the business. By offering different price points, YouTube hopes to attract more paying users.
With Premium Lite, YouTube is giving viewers an affordable way to enjoy videos without interruptions. If you don’t mind missing out on music and downloads, this plan could be a good fit.
Will more people switch to a paid plan for fewer ads? That remains to be seen.
