Instagram is testing a repost feature for main feed
Instagram is finally testing a built-in repost feature for its main feed, giving users an easier way to reshare and credit posts.
Instagram comes up with new features so often, that it is almost impossible to miss them.
But this one will be a game‑changer.
According to Instagram is quietly testing a native repost button that could transform how we share content, and give creators a huge boost.
Until now, if you had to share someone’s content, you had to either rely on third‑party apps or tag them in Stories. This new repost tool brings that power directly into your main feed.
Think of it like Twitter’s Retweet or TikTok’s reshare: you spot a post or Reel you love, tap “Repost,” and see it appear in your followers’ feeds—complete with credit to the original creator.
Here’s what we know so far:
- Main‑feed resharing: Public posts and Reels can be reshared straight to your feed.
- Creator credit: The original author gets full credit, and your repost will link back to their profile.
- Profile Reposts tab: Early tests hint at a new “Reposts” section on profiles to track everything you’ve shared.
- Still in testing: Instagram hasn’t announced a launch date yet and the feature is rolling out to select users first.

There's a repost button on Instagram posts now, but I can't use it 👀

I'm getting a “Unable to post” warning when I tap it. Maybe reposts are coming soon to Instagram, just like in Threads. pic.twitter.com/he4Rwbqcai
Why it matters?
This feature makes it effortless to spread great ideas, showcase friends’ creativity, or revive your own best posts.
But frequent reposting might also mean that fresh posts will get buried faster. It is up to Instagram to see how they balance things out.
