Instagram has introduced a new feature called “Linking Reels,” allowing creators to connect one Reel to the next so viewers can move through multi-part content without leaving the player. The update began rolling out globally on August 21, 2025.
This feature addresses a long-standing frustration among creators who post content in parts. Until now, the only way to guide viewers to a follow-up was through captions or pinned comments. With this change, a small button appears at the bottom-left of the screen, often labeled “Watch Part 2,” letting viewers tap directly into the next video.
As per Instagram’s post, creators will be able to customize the text for this button and add a relevant CTA accordingly.
Creators can access the option while posting a new Reel through the caption composer. There is also a way to link previously published videos using the overflow menu on older posts. Once clips are linked, Reels become part of a visible sequence that plays in order.
Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, described the update as a step toward making Reels more usable and connected. In his Instagram channel, he shared “Our hope is this will make it easier to not only organize Reels but also help your viewers follow along and discover more of your content.”
Moreover, Instagram says the feature should improve storytelling and help reduce drop-offs between parts. For creators who post tutorials, product demos, or narrative-style content, this adds a simple way to keep attention focused without forcing viewers to search for the next clip.
If you’re thinking this sounds a lot like TikTok’s collections, you’re not entirely wrong.
While TikTok offers profile-level Playlists and longer paid Series, Instagram’s approach is lighter and focused entirely on continuity within the player. The linking happens inside the video itself, offering a smoother experience without extra steps.
For now, the company has not yet shared whether there is a limit on how many Reels can be linked together. It also remains unclear whether this change affects reach or performance in the algorithm. The update is live for most users and is expected to reach everyone soon.
This launch follows a string of recent feature updates from Instagram, as the platform continues to refine how short-form content is created, discovered, and consumed. Recently, Instagram also added a Repost button, Friends tab, and a celebrations and recap feature for creators.
